How do I get rid of this nasty cough?

I have been sick for 4-5 days now, with a head cold it feels like, just stuffyness, ears soar,green flem,pluged nose and now I have red eyes.I had a dry cough, but I took some mucsinex* and now its all phlem. But, three days in the row I would have this nasty cough attack. I have this tingle in my throat and I start almost gaging and I started to cry because the tickling needle pain in my throat is getting worst and i keep coughing but it just gets worst and water helps it for about a minute it even feela like Im choking and its just hurting my soar throat worst!. Holding my breathe kind of works, but how can i get rid of it. It only lasts for about 5-10 Min's and only once a day it seems. Thank u!(:
